Dr. Gambacorta is an Orthopedic Surgeon with advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine. His practice focuses on the management of acute and overuse injuries of the musculoskeletal system in children and adults. Treating patients from Buffalo, Western New York and Canada, Dr. Gambacorta uses surgical and non-surgical techniques for new injuries, chronic problems and painful musculoskeletal conditions primarily in the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle in his Buffalo, East Amherst, Kenmore and Williamsville office locations.
A native of Western New York, Dr. Gambacorta is the Medical Director of the Sports Medicine Division at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. He graduated cum laude and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY at Buffalo. He subsequently earned his Master of Science degree at Roswell Park Cancer Institute from SUNY at Buffalo. Dr. Gambacorta earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and his internship and orthopedic surgery residency training at South Pointe Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Healthcare System.
Dr. Gambacorta completed an ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital Boston through Harvard Medical School. There he treated all sports related injuries in patients from pediatric to adult with extensive practice in advanced surgical techniques in Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Medicine, growth plate sparing ACL reconstruction and Hip Arthroscopy, a minimally invasive approach to treat a number of non-arthritic hip pain problems including labral tears, cartilage damage, loose bodies, and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI).
He is an advocate of the STOP sports injuries, a national campaign to reduce sports related injuries in our young athletes. Serving our community Dr. Gambacorta regularly gives lectures to students, residents, doctors, nurses, school districts and community organizations regarding sports injuries and prevention.
Currently, Dr. Gambacorta is acting team physician for Houghton College and several WNY high schools. He has previously served as an assistant team physician for Northeastern University, Babson College and medical coverage for the Boston Ballet, Boston Marathon and Bay State Games.
Although his practice encompasses many areas of general orthopedics, Dr. Gambacorta’s specialty is in the care and treatment of sports related injuries of the pediatric, adolescent and young adult athlete with expertise is in minimally invasive surgical techniques including arthroscopic procedures of the hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle.
